His best-remembered roles are as Cpl. Rocco Barbella in The Phil Silvers Show (aka Sgt. Bilko) in the late 1950s, and as the stumbling, overconfident outlaw biker Eric Von Zipper in the Beach Party movie series, during the 1960s. Harvey Lembeck started his career not as an actor, director, or teacher, but right out of New Utrecht High School, as a dancer at the New York Worlds Fair.
Lembeck’s love of life and the people in his life is evident not only when you see the sparkle in his eyes in a candid photo but also when you hear those who knew him speak about him.
Even though Lembeck is gone, his love of both acting and actors, and his generosity of spirit live on, not only in films and television but every week within the walls of the space he created – The Harvey Lembeck Comedy Workshop.

Harvey Lembeck was a well-known character actor who appeared in dozens of movies and television shows, as well as founding the Harvey Lembeck Comedy workshop, which counts Robin Williams, Penny Marshall and John Ritter among its long-time members.
Lembeck has worked steadily throughout the years, onstage (he appeared with John Travolta in a touring company of Grease) and on television, with the occasional foray into features, and although his face became recognizable through his many television appearances, he never quite became a household name.
Lembeck made his feature directorial debut with The Santa Clause 2 (2002), starring Tim Allen, followed by the comedy Connie and Carla (2004), starring Nia Vardalos and Toni Collette.
