Haveri District is exactly in the centre of Karnataka with equal distance from Bidar in the far norh to Kollegal in far south. Haveri district consists of seven taluks namely Hanagal, Shiggaon, Savanur, Haveri, Byadagi, Hirekerur, Ranebennur. It is bounded by Dharwad district on the north, by Gadag district on north east, by Bellary district on East, by Davangere district on south, by Shimoga district on southwest and by Uttar Kannada on west and north west. Before it was made a separate district, it was part of Dharwad District. Haveri is 335 km from Bangalore. The well known Konanahalli family has been a model in terms of education, as many from that family have become architects, lawyers, medical doctors and engineers in India and abroad. The most prominent family of the district being the Magavi family, who have had an illustrious past as landlords and entrepreneurs besides being actively involved in politics, social work & religious activities(Sri Danamma Devi Devasthana Trust)in Haveri, since the 1920s to the present. The family also runs an NGO for the physically impaired - Shraddha Sansthan, which actively attempts to aid people with physical disabilities. The Magavi family has also been closely associated with one of Karnataka's most prominent Lingayat Maths - Bruhanmath, Chitradurga, for the last 100 years.
