Controversy

Havoc was subject of much Internet rumor that star Anne Hathaway participates in nude and sex scenes. Before this film, Hathaway primarily acted in tame comedies for Walt Disney Studios, e.g. The Princess Diaries (2002) and Ella Enchanted (2004). Internet rumor mongering degenerated to claims that the film's sexual content is of near-pornographic quality, nevertheless, Hathaway and the filmmakers downplayed it. Further rumored is that Disney convinced the rival studio to not release Havoc in competition with Hathaway's The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004). Two DVD versions of Havoc were released in North America, both show Hathaway's breasts in sexual and asexual scenes, and in a scene where she masturbates before a teenage filmmaker. Most of the simulated sex is by co-star Bijou Phillips, including a scene where she is in a ménage à trois, in the middle of which she stops participating and screams. Actresses Hathaway and Phillips playfully teased and flirted with each other in some scenes, increasing the criticism of Hathaway's role. There is little content difference between the R-rated and the Un-rated DVD versions. A second "Max Havoc" film will be shot on Guam later this year, Pyun said, and a third film -- the title of which has not been released -- will be shot on island early next year.
About 40 people are being flown in to work on the current film, Pyun said, and the goal is to bring in as few as five people by the time the third film is ready to be shot next February.
