Hector Salazar, together with his older brother Ramon, ran one of the largest drug smuggling rings in Mexico. Hector was portrayed as the more trusting of the two Salazar brothers, though he was still quite ruthless. Hector had a girlfriend, Claudia, who had an affair with Jack Bauer during Jack's undercover work with the Salazar family six months prior to Season 3. At the beginning of the season, Hector runs the Salazar drug ring and ultimately obtains the freedom of his brother Ramon by threatening to release a deadly virus. Hector is merely running the drug ring in Ramon's place, however, and when Ramon is released from prison, he quickly retakes his power as leader of the family. Hector takes Jack Bauer captive and then praises Jack for his achievement - returning Ramon to the family - despite Ramon's demand that Hector kills Jack. Hector then allows Jack to help with the purchase of a vial of virus which the Salazars require for their next operation, despite Ramon's initial objections. When Jack loses the purchase in an auction, however, the Salazars turn on Bauer and want to kill him. Jack convinces them that he can still get the virus, however, and that if he fails then they can kill him later.


Another agent who has been taken hostage by the Salazars, Chase Edmunds, then attempts to escape from the Salazars with Hector's girlfriend Claudia, by request from Jack. Claudia, however, dies in the process. After learning of this news, Hector is distraught. Nina Myers, who purchased the virus in the auction and from whom Jack has taken the virus, also convinces him that Jack is betraying the Salazars. After hearing this theory, Hector wants to call off the operation. Ramon, however, wants to continue. Hector is shot and killed by his brother Ramon for betraying the family. Chase Edmunds is a fictional character (played by James Badge Dale) who was a high-ranking agent in the Los Angeles Counter Terrorist Unit on Foxs 24. ...
