Hefty Records is an independent record label based in Chicago, Illinois (USA). Founded in 1995 by John Hughes III (aka Slicker), the label has established itself as a home for innovative electronica. The labels releases range in genres and include include post-rock, IDM, down-tempo, jazz, and hip-hop. Hefty’s 41 releases run the gamut of genres, ranging from post-rock, to IDM, to jazz and down-tempo and the label is gearing up for another crop of divergent releases later this year, including a full lengths from Telefon Tel Aviv, Savath + Savalas.
The actual records themselves aren’t any more important than the others but just the momentum that we have with those three projects are probably the best and the most promising for the future.
The records that we did for him were just the reissues and we do everything we can to promote his performances now but I think what he’s doing now is a stretch for what we’re doing.

Produced in micro amounts for the local population, the original recordings are incredibly hard to come by these days.
Hefty, a Chicago-based label, has done a spectacular job with both of these discs.
Hefty Records deserves kudos for making Phil Ranelin's interesting and individualistic music available to the world at large.
