Regener's sequel Neue Vahr Süd (published 2004) tells about Frank Lehmann's life in the year 1980, especially his time in the Bundeswehr (German army). Synopsis

Frank Lehmann will soon become 30 years old and that's why all his friends tease him by calling him by his last name, Herr Lehmann. He works in a bar in Kreuzberg and drinks a lot of beer. Motifs in the story are his life in Kreuzberg, the visit of his parents in Berlin, the love to Katrin, the beautiful cook, and his best friend Karl, who slowly goes insane. Leander Haußmann did an adaption to the screen with the former MTV-video jockey Christian Ulmen (in the role of Herr Lehmann). At the 54th German Film Award 2004 in Berlin the film was awarded 2 lolas in Gold for Detlev Buck, the best supporting actor, and for Regener, best screenplay. Video Jockey or VJ is a term coined in the early 1980s to describe the fresh faced youth who introduced the music videos on MTV. Herr Lehmann heißt eigentlich Frank, aber da er schon bald dreißig wird, nennen ihn alle nur noch „Herr Lehmann“.
Stattdessen setzt er auf Zelluloid exakt das um, was das Buch schon zuvor formuliert hat und erreicht damit nur in wenigen Kernmomenten eine ausreichende Dichte.
Die Brillanz von Sven Regeners Debütroman „Herr Lehmann“ bestand nun weniger darin, die Vereinigung auch mal aus Westperspektive zu zeigen, sondern viel mehr in der Einbettung dieses Hintergrunds als pure Nebensächlichkeit.
