Hexanchidae (cow sharks) are charatcterized by extra pairs of gill slits.


There are four species of cow shark: Heptranchias perlo (Sharpnose sevengill shark), Hexanchus griseus (Bluntnose sixgill shark), Hexanchus vitulus (Bigeye sixgill shark) and Notorynchus cepedianus Broadnose sevengill shark.
