It is an inspiration of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, which confines its work to India, the home of 900 million Hindus. Unlike the RSS, the HSS is largely de-politicized. Also unlike the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, the HSS purely promotive of community and cultural values. The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is a Hindu nationalist organization which bases itself on the principles of Hindutva. ... The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP; World Hindu Council in Hindi), is a Hindu nationalist organisation in Bharat, an offshoot of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. ...


The HSS's main mission is to bring scattered, immigrant Hindu communities together, in celebration of Indian culture, and Hindu religious values and principles. HSS attempts to increase awareness, participation and pride amongst young Hindus born outside India, and supports a wide network of temples, religious festivals and community activities.


The HSS is the largest in North America, and is also spread out in the Caribbean, East and Southern Africa and South East Asia.
