Short History

Hood are an experimental band from Leeds, U.K formed in December 1990. The core of the band features brothers Richard and Chris Adams, joined by various different friends over the years. With influences from The Cure, Aphex Twin, Mogwai, My Bloody Valentine, Pavement and Boards of Canada, their style of music often changes from ambient rock, to drum and bass to shoegaze.

Their first releases where very limited vinyl singles on various different small, indie, and some now defunct, record labels, although 555 records who released '(The) Weight' in 1998 is still alive.

In 1994, record labels Fluff and Slumberland released Hoods first full length album, entitled 'Cabled Linear Tractiion' in 1994. It was a landmark for the band, some say their best album still. Sounding similar to bands like The Cure, Sonic Youth and Pavement. The album was issued on CD in 1999 by Slumberland, who also released 1996's 'Silent '88' album. Similar sounding to 'CLT', but with much more experimentation going on and far more use of electronics. A collection of limited and rare singles was put together by Happy Go Lucky records in 1997 and released on Cd and vinyl, the vinyl version coming with a free 7" record.

In 1997, Domino Record Co snapped up Hood and released the single 'Useless' in 1997. A lo-fi indie electronica affair, not too dissimilar to the aforementioned '(The) Weight' released the next year. After a handfull more singles and eps for Domino, they released the album 'Rustic Houses, Forlorn Valleys' in 1998. A dense, dark and tension building album, sounding somewhere inbetween Labradfood, Mogwai and Massive Attack. A year later came 'The Cycle of Days and Seasons'. With an ever changing line up still revolving around the two brothers, the sound of the band changed yet again, moving further into indie elctronics.

Colaborating with friends Doseone and Why? from the anticon collective came Hoods 5th studio album 'Cold House' in 2001, their most well known and collectively appreciated ablum. Combing eliments of Post Rock, IDM, Indie and Doseone and Why?'s voice and lyric talents, this was their most accomplished work yet. Features the single 'You Show No Emotion At All'. Released on Domino.

In early 2005, Hood released 'Outside Closer'. An emotional journey through ambience and hip hop beats. More line up changes occured, meaning this album was yet again, different to the previous. Taking influence from The Remote Viewer, Prefuse 73 and Empress (of which the singer appears on the album). The tracks 'The Lost You' and 'The Negatives' where released as singles, featuring great b-sides and videos for the tracks.

Since the release of 'Outside Closer' Hood have toured with Why? promoting his new album 'Elephant Eyelahs' and released various remixing, further pushing their sound forward, for the better.

HOOD Band transplants go-go from DC (1156 words)
The HOOD band, which stands for "having only one dream," has spread the go-go message down the east coast with performances in Virginia, Georgia and Florida, and has been asked to play in Philadelphia, says rapper Kaandra Wilson, an architectural engineering student who goes by the stage name Sunset Doe.
During the segues, he says, the bands "started dropping it into a pocket beat," maintaining a constant rhythm that was generally anchored by a drummer and keyboardist with the added percussion of the timbales, an instrument whose texture somewhat suggests the sound of beating on an upturned five-gallon plastic bucket.
Live, the HOOD Band's music undulates from one song to the next, subtly shifting textures and rhythms and alternating the leads between both the vocal and instrumental performers with such dazzling rapidity that it becomes difficult to follow who's doing what.
Heckler Magazine - Skate, Snowboard, Music, Ramp Plans (854 words)
Hoods have been known to most of the Sacramento community as bullies in the music scene — most of the stories, of course, have been fictitious with little or no instances to draw these statements from.
It would seem like the band hated everyone on their rise to the up when, in actuality, they were giving props to bands in the community.
From the band formerly known as ‘Sacto Hoods,” a band that built their fan base on live shows and constant self-promotion, it would only be fitting to let good ol’ Mikey have the last word.
