Hope Class (sometimes erroneously identified as 'Olympic Class') Medical Ship In the Star Trek fictional universe, the Hope class is a class of starship used by Starfleet and made its only featured appearance in The Next Generation's final episode. It is theorised by fans that it entered service during the 2350s in response to the growing Cardassian threat to the Federation, and it is likely the class served during the Dominion War. Hope class starships function as hospital ships and are distinguished by a large, spherical primary hull attached to the curved engineering section - a trait only known to apply to one other class of starship, the Daedalus. One large shuttlebay is located atop the engineering hull and opens towards the vessel's stern. The sphere is covered with portholes, lifeboats and a blue rectangular navigational deflector unlike many other, more circular designs of the time. The warp nacelles are attached to the secondary hull by backward-angled, upward-curving pylons. Star Trek image: Olympic Class medical ship This work is copyrighted. ...

Naming Error
The official name for this class of starship is "Hope Class", based on the dedication plaque aboard the USS Pasteur, however the ship is often referred to as Olympic Class. This is because the model of the ship was not made through normal procedures for modelmaking in the Star Trek production offices. The model was built outside the official production of Star Trek as an independent project by Bill George, and during the making of "All Good Things", a new model was needed. Permission was granted to use the model built by the production staff. However, George had named the new ship "Olympic Class", and this name became associated with the ship. However, Mike Okuda dubbed it "Hope Class" during the production and proceeded with that name.
Age of the Class Given the Pasteur's registry of 58925, we can assume that despite the vessel's appearance in an alternate future of Star Trek, the class is in fact older than the Galaxy Class, of which the Enterprise-D is a member, and were in service before the 2360s, when the Galaxy class was designed. This can be extrapolated by the USS Galaxy's (presumably the first ship of her class) registry of 70637. In science fiction stories involving time travel, an alternate future or alternative future is a possible future which never comes to pass, typically because someone travels back into the past and alters it so that the events of the alternate future cannot occur. ...

- Named for Alfred Nobel, the starship Nobel was ordered by Admiral Marcus Holt of space station Deep Space Three to search for the missing USS Hera (NCC-62006) circa stardate 47215.5 in 2370.
- USS Pasteur (NCC-58925)
- Named for scientist Louis Pasteur, the starship Pasteur was commanded by Captain Beverly Picard sometime in 2395 in an alternate universe created by Q as part of a test of humanity. In that universe, the Pasteur carried Ambassador Jean-Luc Picard to the Devron system where she was attacked by two Negh'Var class battleships, causing a warp core breach; the crew and passengers were rescued by the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D), flagship of Admiral William Riker. Given that the Pasteur's registry does not reflect its being built in 'the future,' we can assume that the vessel did exist in the 'current' timeline of The Next Generation.
