Biology
If a Horsea senses danger, it will vigorously spray water or a special type of ink from its mouth. Horsea have been known to shoot down flying bugs with precision blasts of ink from the surface of the water. If attacked by a larger enemy, Horsea will quickly swim to safety by using its dorsal fin. While in a safe location, Horsea can be seen playfully tangling their tails together. Horsea eat small insects and moss off of rocks. If the ocean current turns fast, then it will anchor itself by wrapping its tail around rocks or coral to prevent being washed away. Much like a real seahorse, the father takes care of the young.
Availability In Red and Blue, Horsea can be found by fishing on Routes 19, 20, and 21. On Red, it is much more common and additionally found in the Seafoam Islands. In Gold, Silver, and Crystal, Horsea can commonly be found by fishing in the Blackform entrance of Dark Cave or the Whirl Islands. In Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald, Horsea is uncommon, but can be found by fishing on Routes 132, 133, and 134. In Fire Red, Horsea can be found by surfing in the lower areas of the Seafoam Islands. It can also be found by fishing anywhere with water in Fire Red and Leaf Green. Horsea can not be found in Colosseum or XD.
Anime Appearance In the anime, Misty has a Horsea which she uses as one of her main fighters. They say Horsea is noble and is supposed to be like a princess horse. Because of this they use him to try to get Snorlax to wake up. In "The Misty Mermaid," Misty gives her Horsea to her sisters at the Cerulean City gym. It reappears when Misty takes over the gym in Pokémon Chronicles, though usually at feeding time. Horsea has been speculated by fans to be Misty's strongest Pokemon. The Pokémon anime metaseries, based on the video game series, was created in Japan and then translated for the North American television market. ...
