Hospital (An tOspidéal in Irish) is a town in east County Limerick, Ireland. The town acquired its name from the crusading Knights Hospitaller who built the archaeologically significant cathedral here in 1215. This cathedral has the remains of three interesting tombs, dating from the 13th and 14th centuries. The "Old Cork Road" from Limerick to Mitchelstown and Cork (also known today as the R153) passes through the town.Hospital being one of the biggest towns in Limerick hosts a number of shops such as O'Sullivan's Gourmet Grocers, Costcutters, Billy Pa's chipper and Centra as well as being the homeplace of Irish Comedian John Kenny, who still hasn't returned my mother's banjo! The town has a new secondary school which was completed in 2000 and has over 800 students as well as a new primary school which was completed in the summer of 2004. Hospital also has one of Limerick's youthreach school's at the top of the street.Surrounding towns include Knockainy, Emly and Knocklong.
