Hounslow Town station was built in early 1883 at the western terminus of the Hounslow & Metropolitan Railway Company's line from Acton to Hounslow. It was constructed at high level, fronting onto the eastern end of Hounslow High Street, with the stated intention of later bridging the High Street and extending the line down towards the Thames to join the LSWR near Twickenham. A year later a single-line extension was opened from Lampton Junction to Hounslow Barracks (renamed Hounslow West from 1st December 1925); the line to Hounslow Town was thereby left on a short south-facing spur, connected by a triangle junction to the main line. 1883 was a common year starting on Monday (see link for calendar). ... In 1886 a new station on the Hounslow Barracks line called Heston-Hounslow was opened and the service to Hounslow Town was withdrawn. 1903 saw the re-opening of Hounslow Town when the Metropolitan District Railway took over the line. Its life was short, however, as in May 1909 Heston-Hounslow station on the main line was renamed Hounslow East and the old station closed for good.
