On the 23rd of May 1618 the Protestant nobles of Bohemia threw from the windows of the council chamber of the Hradcany palace two of the Imperial councillors who were accused of having influenced in a manner unfavourable to the Bohemians the emperor Matthias, who was also king of Bohemia.
In the Mala strana and the adjoining Hradcany are situated the winter residences of the wealthy Bohemian nobility.
The Hradcany was for a time the residence of Rudolph, crown prince of Austria, and it is also occupied by the emperor of Austria during his visits to Prague.

The building of Hradcany Town Hall (Loretanská 1/173) from the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century can be pointed out as an example of Renaissance burges architecture.
The originally tributary town of Hradcany was promoted to a royal town as late as during the reign of Emperor Rudolph II and the hall was built in the same period.
There is another object of interest - it is the preserved all of Hradcany (on the right side of the door), which was used as a unit of measurement in the Hradcany market place.
