Huntley is a village located in McHenry County, Illinois and Kane County, Illinois. In 2003, the village did a "special census" that revealed there's 12,203 people living there. Huntley has adopted a very aggressive development strategy that would fit more into place in the American Southwest rather than in an outer suburb of Chicago. A consultant for the village has predicted that by 2020, Huntley will be home to 50,191 people. In 2003 alone, the village gave out 1210 building permits. The Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission predicts the city will have a population of 44,435 in 2030.

Geography

Huntley is located at 42°9'52" North, 88°25'28" West (42.164524, -88.424330)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 30.4 km² (11.8 mi²). 30.4 km² (11.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.26% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 5,730 people, 2,324 households, and 1,756 families residing in the village. The population density is 188.8/km² (489.1/mi²). There are 2,501 housing units at an average density of 82.4/km² (213.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 94.94% White, 0.44% African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.26% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. 4.28% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,324 households out of which 31.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% are married couples living together, 5.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 24.4% are non-families. 20.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.47 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the village the population is spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 95.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $60,456, and the median income for a family is $65,433. Males have a median income of $44,524 versus $30,363 for females. The per capita income for the village is $27,451. 2.8% of the population and 1.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 2.2% of those under the age of 18 and 1.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
