Hyatt in the anime
Quite where Hyatt is from originally is a bit of a mystery, as she first appears in stasis aboard the spaceship of the Puchuu, whose planet it is later revealed she has been living on since she was a child. Treated as a princess by the Puchuu, Hyatt rather inadvertantly wound up working for the ideological organisation of ACROSS when their agent, Excel Excel, crashed the Puchuu's ship, and Hyatt's stasis chamber floated into the flooded ACROSS headquarters, where she emerged. The organisation's leader, Lord Il Palazzo, immediately took a romantic shine to her and inducted her into the organisation, serving as a junior under Excel. Il Palazzo is a fictional character in the Excel Saga animated series, and the manga upon which it is based. ...
Hyatt is possessed of the very bizarre habit of dropping stone dead at inopportune moments, and then mysteriously returning to life against all odds. She's prone to drooling - or in extreme cases, fountaining - blood when this happens, and when she doesn't die, she's often having moments of physical frailty, which require her to move by crawling along the ground. Smaller living organisms surrounding Hyatt tend to die if they stay around her too long, but it's not clear is this is a result of a spreading disease, or if Hyatt is draining their energy to keep alive - the anime does not attempt to explain it (although this writer's pet theory is that she may be having trouble dealing with Earth's environment). Hyatt is a cheery, not un-intelligent woman, although she remains completely oblivious to Il Palazzo's romantic interest in her, and also the romantic intent of their neighbour, Watanabe, who knows her by her alias of "Miss Ayasugi."
Hyatt in the manga Hyatt's original managa incarnation is essentially the same as her anime character, with one important difference - as there are no Puchuu in the manga, she does not come from their ship, but rather simply answers an advert placed by Lord Il Palazzo looking for new members. Also, a recent manga volume begins to hint towards precisely why Hyatt has her little "dying" problem - in Volume 9, when Il Palazzo finally becomes aware that Hyatt dies regularly (unaware of it as a result of his multiple personality disorder), he takes her to a laboratory deeper in the ACROSS complex, and places her in a stasis tube, commenting to himself that the "genetic substrate" he implanted within her must be deficient. Quite what this substrate is or what purpose is serves, however, remains to be revealed. |
