Hyson tea has a greenish-yellow colour with good body and a smooth, fresh, greenish tasting liquor. Generally all Hyson is of mediocre quality and is considered a low grade tea. Its name translates to Flourishing Spring and this particular variety imparts a fresh green character you would expect to be a part of a springtime experience. Hyson tea was so highly favoured in the 18th century that the British Tea Tax was actually higher for this variety over other teas. Hyson also refers to the leaf size of this grade of pan-fired China green tea which is bold and slightly coarse. The 'Lucky Dragon' is an exceptionally fine Hyson and imparts an ethereal character somewhat like dew from a spring meadow.
