Synopsis

Having freed Moya from the Peacekeeper control collar, a Paddac beacon wired to Moya subsequently activates, transmitting location signals to any nearby Peacekeeper ship. After landing Moya on a nearby planet's swamp to muffle the signal, Zhaan and Rygel try to cut the device free while Crichton searches the planet for an anaesthetic ("clorium") to help ease Moya's pain during the operation. But Crichton is discovered by the planet's locals--a young boy and his mother, Lyneea, a scientist who has spent much of her life searching for extra-terrestrials. John finds himself in much the same situation of E.T. and Eliot, only this time, it's the human who is the E.T. The clorius turns out to be a simple food spice, and he easily acquires some. Crichton and this woman share a special bond so, although presenting Crichton to her military superiors will vindicate her and ensure ample funding for her projects for the rest of her life, she helps Crichton to evade the military to prevent his dissection. Meanwhile, Rygel faces his own demons as he acts to free Moya of the beacon. He feels inadequate to the task, but ends up performing it admirably. Zhaan shows her mettle as she takes away some of Moya's pain and instead feels it herself.
