I Might Be Wrong (with the subtitle Live Recordings) is a 2001 live "mini album" by English rock band Radiohead, consisting of live performances of eight songs recorded on a then-recent tour of Europe and North America: seven from their albums Kid A and Amnesiac, and one never released on a studio album, "True Love Waits", performed on acoustic guitar by singer Thom Yorke. The live arrangements differ somewhat from the studio versions. For instance, "The National Anthem" has a larger "fuzz bass" guitar sound and lacks the free jazz ending of the studio version, "Idioteque" builds into a frenzied audience singalong, "I Might Be Wrong" emphasizes the rhythm section and is more of a dance tune, while "Everything in Its Right Place" is about three-and-a-half minutes longer, with a more jam-like rave quality, as well as making use of improvised effects on a Korg Kaos Pad. Most drastically altered for live performance is "Like Spinning Plates". The studio-recorded Amnesiac version featured backwards singing over a pulsing electronic backdrop, while the live version is a haunting piano ballad accompanied by sparse bass notes and a string synth. (This recording also marks the first time "Like Spinning Plates" was performed live, recorded at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio in August 2001. The CD is labeled inaccurately and does not mention this performance as a source of the recording. Corrected information about the concerts heard on the live album can be found at Green Plastic.) Radiohead: I Might Be Wrong: Live Recordings EP: Pitchfork Record Review (1119 words)
On I Might Be Wrong, a good deal of the essence of Radiohead's live show is distilled onto an eight-track EP.
"The National Anthem" is followed by "I Might Be Wrong," a song that wouldn't be even remotely interesting in its live incarnation if not for the subtle shifts in dynamics that grace the middle and end of the song.
And although I Might Be Wrong is obnoxiously incomplete, the fact remains that Thom Yorke just got 100,000 people to spend $17.99 for eight songs.
Radiohead: I Might Be Wrong -- Live Recordings - PopMatters Music Review (958 words)
I Might Be Wrong -- Live Recordings stands as proof that Radiohead's recent studio passivity has not found its way into their live show.
A live staple since the summer of 2000, "I Might Be Wrong" received a lazy, sleepy, groove-based treatment on Amnesiac, angering many Radiohead fans who expected something like the chugging, heavy, fuzz guitar jam found on this record.
One of the charms of I Might Be Wrong -- Live Recordings is the rediscovery of Radiohead's vitality and exuberance.
