Hon Ian Causley

Ian Raymond Causley (born 19 October 1940),Australian politician, has been a National Party member of the Australian House of Representatives since March 1996 representing the Division of Page, New South Wales. He was born in Maclean, New South Wales, and was a farmer and company director before entering politics. He was president of the Clarence River Cane Growers' Association and a member of the New South Wales Cane Growers' Council.


Causley was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly 1984-96. He was Minister for Natural Resources 1988-90 and 1991-93, Minister for Water Resources 1990-91, Chief Secretary 1990-91, Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries 1993-95 and Minister for Mines 1993-95.


In the federal Parliament, Causley has been Deputy Speaker since February 2002.

Ian Causley’s family has been on the Clarence River since 1888 and in his maiden speech in the NSW Parliament in 1984, he made it clear one of the reasons he went into politics was to protest about what minority groups were doing to the area.
Ian continues to endeavour to put a rational argument to convince the community of the value of rural industries.
Ian carries a firm belief in decentralising government services and achieved regionalisation of water resource offices as a Minister in the NSW State Parliament.
