Iasi is the most important economic, political and cultural centre of Moldova region and one of the oldest cities in Romania.
The Iasicounty territory is limited to the West by the river Moldova in the nearness of the Oriental Carpathians mountains and to the East by the river Prut, which is at the same time, the official border with the Republic of Moldova.
Iasicounty has a surface of about 5470 square kilometers, about 2.3% of the Romania’s tota surface, and is considered to be of an average size among the other counties.
