Ibn Hisham, Abu Muhammad Abd al-Malik (d. 834) edited the biography of Muhammad written by Ibn Ishaq. Ibn Ishaq's work is lost and is now only known in the recension of Ibn Hisham. Ibn Hisham was born in Egypt, studied in Kufa but lived afterwards in Egypt, where he gained a name as a grammarian and student of language and history. His family was of Himyarite origin and he also wrote a work on South Arabian antiquities, Kitab al-Tijan.
His chief work is his edition of Ibn Ishaq's (q.v.) Life of the Apostle of God, which has been edited by F. Wiistenfeld (Gottingen, 1858-1860).

IbnHisham is said to have written a work explaining the difficult words which occur in poems on the life of the Apostle, and another on the genealogies of the Himyarites and their princes.
