Encyclopedia > Ibrahim Idris

Ibrahim Idris (b. 1944) has been governor of Kogi State in Nigeria since 29 May 2003. He is a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP). Ibro as he is popularly called, is an Igala and is from Omala. Governor Idris had very humble beginnings but worked his way to financial greatness. Prior to his electoral success in the general elections of 2003, Idris was a successful businessman and furniture maker. Among his businesses is the three star IBRO hotel in Abuja. He was dismissed by his opponents in the 2003 elections as a political greenhorn. However, His unrightful defamation of Prince Audu and electoral manipulations helped him to win the elections but since then Governor Idris has been generally critised for his lack of natural leadership and non-performance tenure. Earlier and actual desinformation campaign on Prince Audu do'nt seem to intoxicate the mind of the Kogi people anymore. The Kogi voters call out loud for the reinstalment of the First Governor Prince Audu, who's achievements in Kogi were numerous and widely appreciated PDP insiders do not give much chance to Governor Idris in his race against Prince Audu.
