Ichtegem is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Bekegem, Eernegem and Ichtegem proper. On January 1st, 2004 Ichtegem had a total population of 13,389 (6,738 males and 6,651 females). The total area is 45.33 kmē which gives a population density of 295.34 inhabitants per kmē.
The municipality of Ichtegem (13,344 inhabitants on 31 December 2004; 4,534 ha) is located 15 km north-east of Diksmuide, 20 km south-east of Ostende and 15 km south-west of Bruges.
Ichtegem title was confered under the patronage of the legendary "Flandrian" Jules van Hevel, from Ichtegem, winner of the Tour in 1920 and five times in the top five.
Ichtegem is also the village of Karel van Wijnendaele, the founder of the Tour of Flanders and of Richard Depoorter, who died in the village of Wassen during the Tour of Switzerland in 1948.
