 | The 1er arrondissement is the least populated of the 20 arrondissements of Paris, France, though it is also one of the smallest by land area. Much of the arrondissement is used for business and administration. The arrondissement is located mostly on the Right Bank, but it also covers the west end of the Ile de la Cité. It is one of the oldest arrondissements in Paris, the Ile de la Cité dating back to Ancient times, with some parts on the right bank (Les Halles included) dating back to the early Middle Ages.
