In Through the Out Door is the final studio album by English rock band Led Zeppelin, recorded in November and December of 1978 at Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, and released by Swan Song Records on 15 August, 1979. The album was named by the group as such, because of their recent problems and the rise of punk music, trying to get back into the public mind is like "trying to get in through the 'Out' door, than through the 'In' door". But there are two other possible meanings. Plant was amused to find himself a gay sex icon- and the title could thus be an ironic reference to anal sex. And, in the Black Country, an 'out door' was an off-licence attached to a pub. As it connected internally to the main bar and lounge, it was a way in which teenage, underage boys could gain access to a drinking area avoiding door staff. Both Plant and Bonham would have known this - and almost certainly got into a pub by this route as teenagers. Hence, the title may be a play on words on three, multi-layered levels. The original gramophone record of this album featured an unusual gimmick: the album had an outer sleeve which was made to look like a plain brown paper bag, and the inner sleeve featured black and white line artwork which, if washed with a wet brush, would become permanently fully coloured. There were also six different sleeves featuring a different pair of photos (one on each side), and the external brown paper sleeve meant that it was impossible for record buyers to tell which sleeve they were getting. (There is actually a code on the spine of the album jacket, which indicated which sleeve it was—this could sometimes be seen while the record was still sealed.) The pictures all depicted the same scene in a bar (in which a man burns a Dear John letter), and each photo was taken from the separate point of view of someone who appeared in the other photos. Miscellanea

  • "Carouselambra" is the only Led Zeppelin studio song in which Jimmy Page uses his Gibson EDS-1275 guitar.
  • "Wearing and Tearing," "Ozone Baby," and "Darlene" were recorded during sessions for this album, but were dropped due to space constraints. All later appeared on Coda.
  • "South Bound Saurez" and "All My Love" were the only two Led Zeppelin songs which Jimmy Page had no part in writing.
  • This is the unique Led Zeppelin studio album where drummer John Bonham isn't credited on any song. However, one of the outtakes from the sessions for the album, "Darlene", is credited to all four bandmembers.
  • The lyrics for "All My Love" expressed Plant's tribute to his son, who died in 1977.
  • The album was intended to be released prior to the band's Knebworth shows in August 1979, but delays meant that it was released shortly after their performances at this event had taken place. Plant jokingly referred to the delays at times during the August 4 performance.
  • The title of an episode of La Femme Nikita matches the name of the album, though the music is not used.

In Through The Out Door Lyrics - Led Zeppelin (294 words)
In Through the Out Door is a studio album by Led Zeppelin, released by Swan Song Records on August 15, 1979.
The album was named by the group as such, because of their recent problems and the rise of punk music, trying to get back into the public mind is like "trying to get in through the 'Out' door, than through the 'In' door".
In the same way that Presence is largely Jimmy Page's work, so In Through The Out Door belongs to John Paul Jones, with the bassist/keyboardist taking lead songwriting credits on 6 out of the 7 songs.
In Through the Out Door (2962 words)
In the dark year of 1999 at Kardinia Park he threaded through a most miraculous goal – left footed, from the boundary line in left hand forward pocket at the city end of the ground, running towards the crowd and being pushed onto the fence as he kicked.
He was a man who had trod a rather hard path through life arriving in the AFL at the ripe old age of 23 but displaying the courage and love for the jumper that fans love to see, especially in the dark years.
As always it is out with the old and in with the new – a group of young men who are already household names to Magpie faithful and who we hope will become the names on every footy fan’s lips in the year to come.
