It features more obscure foreign and independent films than its competitor, Sundance Channel. IFC also has theme months, in which movies that share a genre get heavy rotation. June 2005 was "Pulp Indie" month, each October is "Indie Screams" month (independent horror films), One month in 2006 there was a "gay cinema" theme month etc. Every Friday at midnight IFC has a feature titled "IFC Grindhouse". During this feature, a film (sometimes two), typically those with an exploitation flair or those that may have been played in grindhouse theaters in the '70s and '80s, are aired. Typically, IFC precedes these films with a "warning," that plays up the exploitation elements of the film about be shown in the form of a false appeal to the viewer to please NOT watch the movie about to be shown. The "warning" typically includes cautions such as claiming the film has no redeeming value, those with heart conditions should not watch, and the curtains and blinds should be drawn to prevent being sued by people who might look into your windows and catch sight of the horrific material about to air on your television screen. Films that have aired during "IFC Grindhouse" include Ginger Snaps, Reservoir Dogs, Creepshow, Graveyard Of Honor (1975), Polyester, Quiet Cool, and Tapeheads, to name a few.
