The Inland Empire refers to the Piedmont regions of Georgia, alluding to its style as the Empire of the South. The largest city in the region is Atlanta, but a number of other cities are in the region including Athens.
In contrast, Savannah is the centre of the Coastal Empire.

According to the index, the InlandEmpire has an expected rent growth of 4.5 percent for 2003, which is the highest among the 40 markets studied in the United States.
According to the San Bernardino Sun, February 12, 2004, the InlandEmpire's San Bernardino and Riverside counties registered the strongest rate of appreciation in the U.S.A. during the fourth quarter of 2003.
