Insight Commuications in a cable provider in the United States. Founded in 1985, Insight Communications Company, Inc. is the nation's ninth largest cable operator, providing state-of-the-art entertainment and communication services to 1.3 million customers living in mid-sized communities within the contiguous states of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. Headquartered in New York City, the company was formed in 1985 by cable veterans Michael S. Willner and Sidney R. Knafel. Recent Service Interruptions
In May of 2006, Insight's broadband operations undertook a upgrade of their technical platform which resulted in significant disruption of service to portions of their user community. The most noticible result of this was a change in ip addresses. They appear to now be running through a network before connecting to the internet in Springfield, IL. As of 10 May, the internet connectivity of a large set of customers had been disrupted for up to 5 days with the able to update personal web spaces down for over two weeks. The scale of Insight's difficulties also resulted in wide spread print and television coverage as the telephone support system was also overwhelmed to the point that circuits were at capacity.
