Architecture The Core 2 Duo processors are abandoning the Pentium 4's Netburst architechture, which involved very high clock speeds and very long stage pipelines, for a new shorter pipeline, which AMD has been using in their Athlon 3000+ processors, up to thier FX-60 CPUs. The long pipelines of the Pentium 4 processors, which contained a 31 stage pipeline, is being replaced with a newer pipeline that is about 14 stages. (Intel Core Microarchitecture [1])
Models of the Core 2 Duo As of now, there are confirmed reports of certain models of the desktop processor line. The desktop models of the Core 2 Duo are codenamed Conroe, while the mobile models are coded Merom. There should be four variants of Conroe, with the model number of E6XX for the desktop line.
