The IAAF's current president is Lamine Diack of Senegal. He became Acting President shortly after the death of the previous president, Primo Nebiolo of Italy, in November 1999. Diack was elected IAAF President at the IAAF's 2001 Congress. More than 1500 children from 9 schools in Rufisque took part in the event which was jointly organised by the IAAF High Performance Training Centre (CIAD) which is based in the city, and the Olympafrica Foundation.
One of the objectives of IAAF ‘Kids’ Athletics’ is to "present athletics to children in such a playful way that they will perceive it more as a game than as a competition," added Thiaré.
On this occasion for children, Diamil Faye, CEO of the organising company commented "with the help of IAAF, we plan to contribute to the rebirth of athletics at school level in the country, so athletics being presented as the basis of all sport.
