February UITP OPENS OFFICE IN DUBAI: The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) opened an office for its Middle East and North African (MENA) Division in Dubai this week. The office was officially opened by Hans Rat, UITP Secretary General, Matter Mohammed Al Tayer, Chair of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, and Abdul Aziz Abdulla Malik, Chair of UITP’s MENA Division. UITP and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority also signed a contract of collaboration on this occasion.
UITP also covers all modes of publictransport - metro, bus, light rail, regional and suburban railways and waterborne transport.
UITP gathers and monitors publictransport statistics and mobility indicators, and acts as a knowledge hub on past and current developments and future trends.
UITP houses an international forum for publictransport policy, offering a unique platform for inter-sectoral dialogue and for exchange and debate between the different profiles of players involved with publictransport.
The InternationalUnion of Railways – more generally known as the UIC, from its French name, Union Internationale des Chemins de fer – is an international rail transport industry body.
Into this environment the UIC was born in October 1922, with the aim of standardising things.
A parallel body is the InternationalUnion of PublicTransport (UITP) which covers passenger railways, especially in cities.
