IUB has three independent residential colleges modelled after the colleges at Oxbridge. These are intended primarily as accommodation for undergraduate students, although a limited number of rooms for graduate students are also available. Each college is headed by two College Masters elected directly by the students living there. Facilities Inside the campus area there are several research buildings called Research I, Research II, Research III, Research IV and Research V. In addition there are four labs - Lab I, Lab II, Lab III and Lab IV. There is also an ocean lab and an E.ON energy lab. There is an extensive and modern library. Trivia On the official website it says that students come from over 86 countries. However, the majority of students are originally from Bulgaria, Romania and Germany. Despite this fact IUB may be considered one of the most international universities in the world with around 80% of student body coming from outside Germany.
The rigorous academic schedule is also a well known attribute. Students are required to take between 6 and 8 courses per semester.
