Interstate 57 serves as a de-facto bypass route for travellers from the south on Interstate 55 who are headed on their way to Chicago instead of going through St. Louis.
Interstate 57 is the only Chicago expressway that does not have a name, although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as the "Dan Ryan," which is actually the name for the section of I-94 and I-90 that connects to I-57.
