Interstate 240 is an interstate highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is a bypass of Asheville, North Carolina. I-40 runs east/west to the south of the city, while I-240 runs in a half-circle around the north. The west end begins as a continuation of what was the northern or western terminus of I-26. That western end of I-240 is now being renumbered as I-26, as is I-181 in Tennessee, and the two are scheduled to connect in the next few years pending NCDOT completion.
