Encyclopedia > Interstate 276

Interstate 276 (abbreviated I-276) is a segment of the Pennsylvania Turnpike running from Interstate 76 in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania to the Delaware River, where it connects with the New Jersey Turnpike extension. The part between the I-95 overpass and the Delaware River will become I-95 once the interchange between the roads is finished; the New Jersey side is already designated I-95, but it is not signed. (I-295 is still signed as I-95 from NJ-29 to US-1. Signs for I-95 on the mainline Turnpike in NJ have yet to be extended south to interchange 6 from interchange 10 (where I-95 would have left the Turnpike had the Somerset Freeway been built).) The highway, originally designated as I-280 when the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Ohio state line and Valley Forge was I-80S, received its present number in 1974 when I-80S became I-76.
