Interstate 440 in Tennessee is an 8-mile-(13-km)-long loop connecting Interstate 40 and Interstate 24, bypassing downtown Nashville to the south. The section between I-24 and I-65 was completed in 1986, and the section between I-65 and I-40 was completed in 1987. It was the most expensive road, per mile, built in Tennessee at the time.
