Kinnick Stadium -
Kinnick Stadium was named after 1939 Heisman winner Nile Kinnick, Iowa's one and only Heisman Trophy winner. It opened in 1929, simply known as "Iowa Stadium." Kinnick tragically died on June 2, 1943, when his F4F Wildcat crashed into the ocean at the Gulf of Paria. This led to the eventual renaming of the stadium in 1972. As part of the most recent renovations, a statue of Kinnick was unveiled on September 1, 2006 just outside the stadium. The statue portrays Kinnick as a student at Iowa, with a football helmet at his feet. Kinnick Stadium, formerly known as Iowa Stadium, is a stadium in Iowa City, Iowa. ...
