According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 52,481 people in 10,293 households. Physically, Ipil is located at the southern center of the Zamboanga of Zamboanga Peninsula, facing the Sibuguey (Sibugay) Bay. Ipil's two national highways, the Zamboanga-Pagadian Route and Zamboanga Dipolog Route, serve as the passage for Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur. Ipil will soon be the first city in the province because of the economic development.
