Islamic Jihad is also a name used by various other terrorist groups. Since 1983, when a group calling itself "Islamic Jihad" claimed the April 1983 U.S. Embassy bombing in Beirut, it has been used by several other organizations. Hezbollah is believed to have used the name in the 1980s to claim responsibility for terror attacks in Lebanon, parts of the Middle East, and Europe. There is also the Egyptian Islamic Jihad and the Yemeni Islamic Jihad. The April 18, 1983, suicide bombing of the United States Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon was the deadliest attack on a US displomatic mission to that time, and is seen by some as marking the beginning of anti-US attacks by Islamic groups. ... Although other groups may claim Islamic Jihad as their name, the particular name Islamic Jihad Organization (IJO) is the one used by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or Pasdaran, as a cover name for state sanctioned terrorist operations. The order for the April 1983 U.S. Embassy bombing most likely originated high up in the Iranian authority, and the IJO made the claim that they carried out the embassy bombing1. Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (Persian سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامی - Sepah Pasdaran Enghaleb Islam-e), often shortened to Revolutionary Guards, or called by its Persian name Sepah, translated to English as Pasdaran, is a military organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran. ... Islam is a religion and in no means should it ever be associated with terrorism it is not to be confused with the word Jihad. Perhaps it would be better to label the terrorists as Jihad extremists. Not Islamic Jihad.
