Izmailovskaya (Измайловская) is a Moscow Metro station on the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line. Along with Vykhino, it is one of only two grade-level stations outside of the Filyovskaya Line. Moscow's harsh winters make above-ground stations impractical, but the design nontheless enjoyed brief popularity between 1958 and 1966 because of the low construction costs. Izmailovskaya was built in 1961 to replace the old Pervomaiskaya station, which had been in use since 1944. The design of the station features an elevated vestibule, reached from the street via two flights of steps, which sits on top of the ground-level platform. The platform is relatively spartan, with a canopy providing some protection from the elements and pillars faced with white marble. The architect was I.G. Taranov. The station has a direct entrance to the magnificent Izmailovkiy Park nearby. The Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya Line is one of the twelve lines of the Moscow Metro. ... Paul Tatum (American joint owner of Radisson-Slavanskaya Hotel in the Moscow; shot 11 times in the head and neck (his attacker knew he was wearing a bulletproof vest) and killed in a sensational shooting in a Moscow Metro station in November 1996, for refusing to pay "krysha" and be squeezed out by a silent partner.
Tatum was surrounded by his own bodyguards when attacked, however they made no attempt to save him and allowed his attacker to escape unharmed.
