His father was Arany György, his mother was Megyeri Sára.


He was born in Nagyszalonta, which now belongs to Romania. When he was born, his sister is already a married woman and all his other sisters/borhters are dead - he was a late child. He is considered a mireacle-child in Nagyszalonta, learns to read and write early. Since he was a late child, his parents need support early in Arany's life, thus Arany starts working at the age of 14 as an associate teacher. In 1833 he signs in for the refomate college in Debrecen. Debrecen (approximate pronunciation: deh-breh-tsen, Debreţin in Romanian, Debrecín in Slovak, Debreczyn in Polish) is the second largest city in Hungary after Budapest. ...
