J. C. Penney Company, Inc. (NYSE: JCP (http://www.nyse.com/about/listed/lcddata.html?ticker=JCP)) is a department store chain based in the Dallas, Texas suburb of Plano. The original name for the store was the Golden Rule Store, but was changed to J. C. Penny in 1912.


The chain was founded in 1902 by James Cash Penney, commonly known as J.C. Penney. The mother store is located in Kemmerer, Wyoming.
