These were coupled with ArcView to introduce GIS to the ocean professional, and to demonstrate the display and analysis powers of GIS when linked with available marine observations (MRJ, 1993).
In 1991, the first marine GIS posters to be presented at the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) User Conference (Carrigan et al., 1992; Wright et al., 1992b) were among the maps chosen by ESRI President JackDangermond for inclusion in the publication, Arc/INFO Maps, which annually highlights the multidisciplinarity of Arc/INFO users.
