Encyclopedia > Jacqueville

Jacqueville is a town in Côte d'Ivoire. It so called because it was the first place in Côte d'Ivoire where the Union Jack was raised when the British originally occupied the country. It is virtually an island, separated from most of the country by a lagoon. The only road involves taking a ferry across the lagoon. Amongst other things it is noteworthy for the local pineapples ("ananas sauvage") which are long narrow and have completely white, very sweet and have completely unacidic flesh. When nitrate fertilisers are used in their cultivation they become yellow and taste much more like a conventional pineapple.

I went to Jacqueville this weekend (August 28-30)with Marie-José and Lindsay.
We left le Plateau and took a taxi to Treichville, a district of Abidjan where we found the Jacqueville bus station (le petit gare de Jacqueville).
We arrived in Jacqueville probably around 7:30 pm and it was pitch fl.
Cote d'Ivoire Outside Abidjan (883 words)
Jacqueville is a wonderful little village not far from Abidjan, but far enough to not have any of the hassles.
It is a very relaxing place, with a deserted beach, and real people to meet if you make an effort to follow the long dirt road and visit the villages.
So we followed this man back to his little hut in the village just outside of Jacqueville and he showed us how he smokes the coconuts to get the coconut oil.
