About Jade

Jade first made her debut in Mortal Kombat II as a secret, non-playable character. Simply a female assassin who wore jade-coloured clothes (in reality, she was just a green version of Kitana), she was very fast and featured an abnormal combat furor, as well as invulnerability to projectiles. To defeat her was close to impossible as she simply proved to be too fast and too strong. This trait would also be followed in other Mortal Kombat games, especially when playing against her on Hard difficulty. In Mortal Kombat II, she was hard to find, and even harder to defeat. In Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, she made her return to the series and was given a deeper personality. She was featured as a female assassin who was torn between betraying her close friend or her emperor, so until her ending was viewed, it was difficult to tell what side she was on. Eventually, Jade revealed herself to be a force for all that is good and separated herself from Shao Kahn. Her main weapons are the boomerang and the bo staff (in Mortal Kombat: Deception, it is more of a spear). Mortal Kombat II is the second game in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. ... Jade as she appears in Mortal Kombat: Deception.

It is assumed Jade was the back-up plan of Shao Kahn during the second tournament, in case his own warriors would fail to withstand the fury and anger of the Earthrealm warriors. In fact, although she was not present in the first Mortal Kombat tournament, she was hiding in the shadows of the tournament, watching the events unfold. From there would she have to return to Outworld and report to Shao Kahn. Like Kitana, Jade's origins lie not in Outworld, but in the realm of Edenia. While it is not certain whether or not her parents made any signficant contributions to Edenia, it is known that they were loyal and faithful subjects who loved King Jerrod and Queen Sindel. Jade was the childhood friend of Kitana at one point, but when Shao Kahn took over Edenia and merged the realm with Outworld, the two were more or less enslaved (Kitana was already a prized gem in the eyes of Shao Kahn as she was the princess of Edenia) and both were trained to be professional and personal assassins to Kahn. Jade's friendship with Kitana was temporarily inactive after the birth/creation of Mileena, who had the ability to read Kitana's thoughts. Under the threat of death was Jade forced to work loyally as an assassin alongside Kitana and Mileena. During the events of Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Kitana had brutally murdered her twin sister and escaped the punishment of death after being tried for treason in the high courts of Outworld. She escaped the evil realm of Outworld and ventured out in the unknown reigons of Earthrealm. Angry and furious, Shao Kahn appointed Jade and Reptile to venture into Earthrealm and capture Kitana. Reptile was to kill her, and Jade was faced with two choices. Betray Kahn and help Kitana, or betray Kitana and bring her dead body to Shao Kahn. Jade made the decision to help Kitana and the two friends fought off and defeated Reptile. With his defeat, the two women joined Raiden and his forces in the battle against Shao Kahn and his forces. Kitana had a personal mission to reach and warn Queen Sindel about their true past together, so Jade would once again agree to help her. With Shao Kahn's defeat at the hands of Liu Kang, Kitana warned Sindel about their true past and Sindel regained her memory. While she did that, Jade would assist Liu Kang in his final battle with Shao Kahn, and along with his great efforts was he able to destroy Shao Kahn and separate not only Earthrealm, but the realm of Edenia from the realm from Outworld. During the events of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Kitana and her armed forces, along with the forces of Goro and his Shokans embarked on a war against Shao Kahn and his outworld forces. While they fought, Jade remained in Edenia, helping Sindel restore the beauty of her realm. At one point, she was enlisted to go to Outworld and help Kitana with her struggle in which she did. Instead of finding Kitana's armed forces fighting, she found Kitana's body lying on the ground with her other fallen comrades. Heartbroken, Jade knelt beside her fallen friend's side but sensed the presence of another greater evil. In hiding, she witnessed this evil menace resurrect the bodies of Kitana and her fallen friends. While they were resurrected, they were also under an evil spell and were told to meet up with the force controlling them at the Living Forest. Jade followed, only to discover that they were going to invade Edenia and hold Queen Sindel prisoner. Jade returned to Edenia to find Queen Sindel behind bars and guarded by her own daughter. She could have fought for her freedom, but she couldn't strike her own daughter. Jade attacked Kitana and trapped her in a cage of her own while she freed Sindel and reached the portal to Earthrealm, but before she went through the portal, Jade caught a glimpse of her enemy Tanya standing next to Onaga (the Dragon King). From there, Jade made it her personal mission not only to assist Sindel in her quest of rescuing her daughter from the Dragon King's spell, but to also to seek justice (or perhaps vengeance) against Tanya, who had betrayed Edenia yet again. Movie appearance

In contrast to the games, where Jade has a black skin-tone and ultimately fights for good, Jade appears in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation as a distinctly Asian character who remains loyal to Shao Kahn until her death. After failing to seduce and kill Liu Kang, Kahn himself has her swallowed by a gargoyle in his palace (apparently his palace gargoyles are alive). There is also no indication in the movie that Jade and Kitana know each other from the past. Trivia

  • Wears the colors according to her name. However, as she is not human, she could easily have chosen an English name matching her favourite color.
  • Is one of the hardest opponents to defeat in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Trilogy and, thanks to a temporary invulnerability to projectiles and a punishing 7-hit combo.
  • Could be seen peeking out from a tree during kombat in The Living Forest Arena in Mortal Kombat II, as could fellow secret character Smoke.
  • Because she was appointed by Shao Kahn to retain Kitana and was forced to work with Reptile, many fans believed that she and Reptile would have a relationship, especially when they wear the same color. This was not the case. Reptile's mate was to wear gray.
  • In the Mortal Kombat comic books, she is depicted as an evil character who is loyal to Shao Kahn. She also associates herself with Smoke, likely due to the Living Forest appearance.
  • In Mortal Kombat II before the player reached the "?" box in the single player mode, only if he used low kick only, never blocked, and managed to attain victory twice could he fight Jade. From there the player would be sent to Goro's lair (a returning level from Mortal Kombat) to face Jade.
  • Jades introduction to the Mortal Kombat series is quite simliar to that of Reptile's. She was simply a green colored version of Kitana only she was much tanner than her. Reptile made his appearance as a green colored version of Scorpion, only he had both Scorpion and Sub-Zero's abilities. When Jade made her reappearence in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, she was given her own attributes and storyline.
  • She was introduced as a young woman torn between her best friend and her emperor.
