James Ash (born James Appleby) is a British-born musician, songwriter and record producer. He is the co-founder and keyboardist of Australian electro-rock group, the Rogue Traders. His nickname bob by Natalie Bassingthwaighte due to him calling her beryl. She was originally called this because James used to say in the studio "let's give it a burl, shirl". He can play the keyboard and "bash out a few chords on the guitar" He was born in Windsor, in the UK on 10th of June, 1973. He had early schooling at Wessex Gardens, Golders Green and Ashfold School, Bucks. Schooled in Paignton College, Devon - then Cheam High, Surrey. He first moved to Langwarrin, Australia in 1982 for 18 months before returning to the UK. Moved back to Australia in 1988 for one year. Undertook Year 11 at Sandringham Secondary College. He began writing music in 1989 on a Commodore Amiga. Returned to the UK in 1989. Completed education at Carshalton College, Carshalton in 1992 then moved back once again to Melbourne, Australia.
