US Interest Section Chief in Cuba. A group of seventy-five people were accused of being conspirators with the United States in March, 2003, because they accepted gifts (office machines and office space) from James Cason. An exhibit was erected on September 8, 2005 to protest and draw attention to the situation of the incarcerated. They remain imprisoned. There is controversy around the imprisonment for various reasons, the most important of which are: 1) For an American audience, it is very objectionable to be jailed for being pro-American and 2) Within Cuba, it is questioned whether these individuals were actually consipiring at all, as James Cason offered them the office amenities and it could be reasonably asserted that anyone would have taken them.
