James Kirkup (b. April 23, 1918) is a prolific British poet, translator and travel writer. He was brought up in South Shields, and educated at Durham University. He has written over 30 books, including autobiography and plays.


He became notorious after the Gay News blasphemy trial (Whitehouse v. Lemon), and moved to Andorra to live.
