He has twice been champion of the British Touring Car Championship. In 2005 he raced away from the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for the first time in over a decade, joining Alfa Romeo for the World Touring Car Championship. After competing in the first 9 races, he was actually ahead of BTCC team leader Jason Plato.
